ACL Injury


ACL is an important stabilizing ligament of the knee that is a common injury in the sporting population. ACL injuries can occur in combination with bone marrow lesion, meniscal tears, articular cartilage injuries or MCL injuries. The diagnosis is made clinically as well as with MRIs; thus, please consult a Doctor and then a Physiotherapist if you experience any symptoms around the knee joint suggestive of a ligamentous injury.

Symptoms :
  • Pain over knee joint lines
  • Sharp Pain with knee movement
  • Tearing / cracking/ popping sensation
  • Restriction in range of motion
  • Instability of knee or giving way
Causes :
  • Cutting, pivoting or single-leg landing
  • Forceful twisting injury
  • External impact of tibia & femur
  • Sudden deceleration
  • Muscle imbalance or weakness
  • Ankle instabilities
